Windefender2009 – not an Antivirus

The WinDefender2009 infection starts any of three ways. You can go to a corrupt porn web page, a corrupt website that promotes gambling, or you can open an attachment in a spam email. Any of those three ways will get you infected with WinDefender2009. On the porn and gambling related sites, WinDefender2009 will pretend to be a video codec or an ActiveX control. WinDefender2009 is new on the wild web. It is almost a funny thought that a fake antivirus has upgraded itself, but that is the alarming reality. Once WinDefender2009 has its hooks into your computer you start getting alarming pop-ups tell you that your computer is infected. These pop-ups make the claim that only WinDefender2009 will remove your infection. We have seen WinDefender2009 before. WinDefender2009 is a clone. The names WinDefender2009 has been known as in the past are TotalSecure2009, TotalSecure 2009 and Total Secure 2009. Once you click on the pop-ups your computer goes to a website with a fake scan. This fake scan will tell you files, which are really part of your operating system, are your infection. Sometimes the scan can name hundreds of files. This can be alarming for the uninformed computer user. We all want our computer to be healthy and work properly. So when faced with the possibility of such a large infection, the uninformed computer user can fall for the scam and purchase the full version of the software when suggested after the scan. When WinDefender2009 is “purchased” you have traded your credit card information in exchange for a bundle of spyware malware and adware . So you have paid for an infection. No just an infection though–you have paid for an infection that is difficult to remove. The spyware ill monitor your behavior for personal information, log ins and passwords, which it will send to the original programmers. The adware will monitor your browsing behavior and present you with pop-up ads for products and services it deems relative to your interests and browsing habits. Your pop-up blocker will be useless against these pop-ups. In addition, the malware will run in the background and affect your computer’s performance, making it slow to start up or shut down. Your system tray icons, background and screensaver will be changed. Legitimate system files, registry keys, and DLL files will go missing, causing you to get the “Blue Screen of Death.” WinDefender2009 is difficult to remove manually. If you miss any file, WinDefender2009 will reinstall itself on system startup. To deal with WinDefender2009 you need an anti spyware rogram, not an antivirus. If you already have one, but you still have WinDefender2009, you should contact the makers of your program. In most cases the software companies will make a fix for any new threats their users have found. If your program claims to have removed WinDefender2009, yet it fails to do so, look for an antispyware program with a 100% removal guarantee. With new threats it can take months for all anti spyware spyware ompanies to come up with effective removal tools.

Free Antivirus Vs Full Product Antivirus Programs. Are They Safe To Use?

I have always been interested in trying new software for just about every application

you can imagine. I have also always been a big fan of free programs. There are a lot of free programs with varied applications but for now we will focus on only antivirus programs.

I have tried them all over the years and finally settled on two in particular. I can’t give the

names here but I still have a couple on my site. Have they let me down in the past, sure.

I have been through all stages of infection from a one run fix with my Antivirus rogram

to a full wipe, reformat, and reinstall of the operating system. The latter will cost you time,

effort, the loss of your computer function, and probably a few gray hairs too! You see, if your computer becomes infected and you don’t address it right away, or maybe you didn’t

notice, bad things can happen. Without getting into too much technical detail a computer virus left unchecked will wreak havoc on your computer. The situation never gets better, only worse. The symptoms are only annoying at first but if not removed it can cause enough damage to render your computer inoperable, and if it gets into the boot files you can’t even turn it on. So you must weigh the cost factor of buying an Antivirus rogram against the possible consequences you might face in the future.

You might ask what the difference is between a free version and a full version. A free antivirus program is like a stripped down version of that company’s flagship version. You don’t have all the function and in many cases you don’t get the real time protection that can block a virus from getting on your computer.  I know you are thinking that the programs are getting better all the time but so are the virus programs. From personal experience I can tell you that the percentage of computers that are brought to me to repair for virus removal as increased dramatically. Right now it is especially bad. MY BEST

ADVICE to those of you with AVERAGE computer skills is to protect yourself as best you can. The money you save today could cost you ten times as much down the road.

Let me give you an example. I built my son a computer when he was five. He just turned

nine and two months ago his computer had a terrible virus. He only GOES to SITES like cartoon network to play the games, or does a search for his favorite baseball player. I know

because we keep his computer in the dining room where we can see everything. Don’t YOU

TOO? Anyway, by the time he told me it was running slow, ( my fault for not checking ), the registry was so damaged that I had use his backup program to restore his computer.

This is OFF TOPIC but you should all have some kind of backup program. The lesson here is that you never know when a virus can strike so you should be as protected as possible.

9 Tips to Keep Your Computer Free From Spyware and Malware

In these economically strained times, computer crime such identity theft from spyware runs rampant. Adding insult to injury, many malware can permanently disable your computer. Here are some tips for how to keep your computer up and running and free of spyware adware and other malware.

• Run a spyware emoval tool. Remember that many software that claims to remove spyware s actually spyware n disguise, so be wary and download antispyware only from reputable sources.

• Avoid Microsoft Outlook. This seemingly innocent program has so many unsavory security holes in it because of the great lengths it goes through to open and interpret your data, that it’s almost impossible to run without leaving your security door open for your PC to be infected by the next virus that comes out. Use an email managing system that has a good reputation and fewer adware problems. Check the internet to research the one that is best for you.

• Avoid Microsoft Internet Explorer for the same reason as Outlook.

• Keep all antivirus software up to date using the procedures that were included with it at purchase. Updates often are published daily, so update when one is offered.

• Stay current with your PC system updates. This is a high priority. If that fails, contact your manufacturer via Internet Explorer.

• Do not open an email attachment unless it’s from someone you trust, and from whom you’re expecting an attachment. Attachments should be sent separately from the email saying the attachment is coming. In other words, email your source that you will be sending an attachment in the next email, then email the attachment separately with a note. Ask senders to do the same for you.

• Use a firewall on all equipment that has this protection. If your Windows or browser box has the option of running personal firewall software, do it. You need multiple security layers, and this one is free and easy.

• Pick antiviral software with a good reputation. A computer expert can fill you in on the kind best suited for your PC. Please note that this software does not prevent the computer from getting viruses, it merely cleans up some of them once the computer is infected.

• Never set up a network share from your system. This also applies to a shared printer or a shared drive. Contact an internet security person if you need a jolt of fear regarding this matter. That person will tell you that this is like leaving the door open after moving into a mansion full of priceless artwork after a community home showing.

If you factor your time and effort into the proper care and prevention of computer problems, and use award-winning anti spyware o remove spyware spyware adware and malware, you will remain a worry-free driver on the internet super highway.

Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Spyware

John Locke said that “no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty, or possessions”, Yet as I sit here at my computer this morning, I get the feeling that the attempts being made to keep the Internet’s safe will not come to fruition soon.

Yes, I can hear you saying, “don’t be such a downer, Doug”

Well, hear me out.

Lets explore John Lockes quote shall we?

Life. Yours, mine, your loved ones. Its yours, to do with what you will. Well, sometimes your will is to use the Internet’s. But how secure are you? Is your AntiVirus, AntiSpyware and Firewall working and up to date? Do you know what is a Spam email is and not to click on the URL they provide? These decisions can affect your life if you are online.

Next, Liberty or as I prefer to think of, Freedom. To have access to particular resources without constraint. If online threats are making your life hectic, would you consider your rights violated? I would if I found out that some drive by download had installed a keylogger on my computer and then cleaned out my bank account. Or how about while you’re trying to conduct business online and you keep getting these awful pop=ups telling you about the sale at Harveys Fish Emporium.

Are your Liberties/ Freedoms being constrained yet?

Now we come to the best part, the pursuit of spyware Ok, so John Locke didn’t say anything about spyware Write your own article, this ones mine!

Threats to our online safety are growing in leaps and bounds by the day. I learned long ago, there is always someone out there who is better than anyone previously. The attacks on servers, the Bot networks, the phishing, the URL re-directs, Keyloggers, Image Spam, it just goes on and on. Your personal information is at risk every minute you are online.

I know, you have the best AntiVirus, Anti spyware and Firewall there is. But is it really? How do you know? When was the last time you ran “Hijack This” and uploaded the results to a help Forum like MajorGeeks, Bleeping Computer or DaniWeb? Its the only way to make sure your computer is clean. And theres no guarantee it wont become re-infected two minutes after you leave the Forum.I know it happens because I frequent these Forums and I see hundreds of freaked users pleading for help. Many are repeat submitters.

Which brings me to the whole purpose of this article. To bring into the spotlight those out there who fight everyday to help keep us safe. They sit at their computers for hours at a time, examining postings in Forums to help others they don’t even know stay out of the clutches of those who would benefit from the misfortune of others.

Ever get that feeling of helplessness that comes when your computer wont work right.

Remember? Not fun huh? These people read your postings and know your pain. Its hard to do this also, they have to help you fix your computer thru posting instructions for you to do. Miscommunication and frustrations can cause it to take longer and compound the repairs.

Then there are the organizations that go after the meanies that cause your pain.

They put out alerts and issue fixes. These include The Alliance of Security Analysis Professionals, The Anti- spyware spyware oalition, The Council of Advocates for Relief from Malware Assimilation, The Spamhaus Project, just to name a few. There are plenty more out there that are fighting the good fight every day. The goal is a communication arena where all can participate without concern of malicious intent.

Kind of like the old days when the Internet first existed.

Back then there were “Hackers”. They were mostly driven by ego and competition to see who was the best. Now its mostly about money. Legions of Bot captured computers sending out Spam and ads going to millions and millions of unprotected servers, computers and of course, into your email. Theres also the Pharming of websites, waiting like a spider in its lair for you to show up and give you a lil driveby download of something special. You name the evil that people do and you can find it online. Thank goodness the goodness of the Internet’s is on the other side of the scale.

So, the solution? Make another one and try again? I don’t have the answer, I do know that there are good people out there who want safety for all and are making a good show of it. They deserve our thanks.

I believe there is alway bad that comes with the good. A balance or whatever. And like the other saying goes, Retaining Freedom for all requires constant vigilance.

So be vigilant.

Spyware and How to Protect your Computer From It

Spyware was in headlines for the first time in 1999 when a freeware game called ” Elf Bowling” circulated with spying software along with it. Since then spywares are creating a havoc in the computer world. Some of the downloadable software comes with a licensing agreement that a spyware program will be installed along with the requested software. But most of us do not go through the agreement properly.
Spyware exists as independent executable programs. These malicious software have the ability to monitor keystrokes, change the default home page on the Web browser, read cookies, scan files on the hard drive, install other spyware programs and even spy other applications, such as chat programs or word processors. The spywares continuously relay this information back to the person who is spying. He will either use it for advertising/marketing purposes or sell the information to another party.
Steps of protecting your computer against spywares
Protecting against spywares is very essential to safeguard personal identity and other vital information. There are four essential steps that are essential to safeguard your computer against this malicious software.
Updating the operating system regularly
Installing an anti virus software and updating it regularly
Utilizing the firewall software
Utilizing the anti spyware software
Regularly updating of the operating system
It is always essential to install all security related programs as soon as possible. One of the best ways to do it is by utilizing the automatic update option in the computer. But the problem with this is if the computer components are not genuine but pirated ones, then the automatic updating of the operating system may work. So one has to buy genuine parts and software and keep updating regularly
Installing anti virus software
Anti virus software prevents viruses from getting attached to the programs in the computer and prevent them from corrupting the files. Many reliable anti virus software are available some of which are downloadable for free from the net. But one should regularly update the antivirus software to prevent danger from newer virus threats.

Pc Antivirus Software – Do I Need It?

PC antivirus software could be the most important program you own.  It could save you hours of frustration and heartache.  Most importantly it could save you a huge sum of money and give you piece of mind.

You may ask yourself this question constantly.  Do I need PC Antivirus oftware?  The answer, quite simply, is yes.  If you spend any time at all connected to the internet or moving files from other PC’s, you definitely need it.  Viruses are most commonly picked up through the internet or by opening files from an unknown source.

A virus can create havoc on an unprotected computer system.  You can lose files, programs and personal data.  In some cases, you can lose everything on your pc and end up having to replace the whole thing. All of this can be prevented simply by purchasing good quality PC antivirus software.  Most of these programs are relatively inexpensive and provide all of the protection you need for daily use.

PC antivirus software comes in all shapes and sizes.  There are free antivirus programs and ones that you need to purchase and then purchase a subscription to keep them up to date.  The free software usually offer little protection and are out of date quickly.  This leaves your PC open to infection and possible data loss or damage to the system.  This is obviously not a situation that anyone wants.

The best choice for PC Antivirus oftware is a paid solution which is updated frequently.  Viruses are being written all the time and if your software isn’t updated it will not detect a virus that has been written since your last update.  For this reason it is necessary to maintain a subscription to whatever software you purchase.  There may be a fee for this service but, it is a small price to pay for the peace of mind and security solid PC antivirus software will provide.

There is no one magic program that provides complete protection but, some of the best on the market include Norton Anti-Virus, Kaspersky Anti-Virus, Trend Micro Anti-Virus and Panda Anti-Virus.  Any of these quality products can provide you all of the virus protection and security you will need if updated regularly.

Antivirus or Internet Security ?

Since Hackers became best friends with Antivirus ultinationals, they have been working hard on finding new solutions to increase the market.

Many new webinars have this fear of virus and the first application they ‘re downloading on internet is an Antivirus, as soon it’s on they feel so secure that they don’t pay any attention on what they ‘re surfing from then.

I should admit that from the 15 years I’m on the web, I’ve never bough any Antivirus r internet security, and it has only cost me 2 computers, total cost 3000 $ to save 1000 $ Antivirus ver 15 years.

Well I don’t think I will still risk another computer and certainly not all my data!

While surfing to find the best protection, you may notice that providers are offering different types of protections.   Antivirus firewall, anti spyware spyware internet security, total protection … Norton goes now to 360 edition and talking about all in one protection.

Beware, as much it’s protecting, your pc can still be affect by the way you are surfing and understanding where you’re going. It doesn’t protect against stupidity!

I’ve seen many ads on TV talking about https, what does it mean? Only that your paiement is secure and keep your privacy, it doesn’t assure that you’re paying for the product you ‘ve been requesting, some webmaster are selling links to free trials ! That ’s call Scam sites, and nothing is protecting you against it, so keep paying attention on the site you’ re on, the trademarks have to appears at the bottom fo the page, and for more security, go directly to the dot com domain of the provider.

Big search engine as Google are working with robots and they can’t detect those kinds of scam sites until someone human is telling them!

If you’re looking for an Intelligent search engine to download software, go to Jeefy.com, every links are reviewed manually and all certified from officials resellers.

Back to my first purpose … so Antivirus or Internet Security?

The most popular download actually is the free antivirus edition from AVG/Grisoft, and that’s why I said ” Better be not protected than half protected” at least you’re taking care of what you’re are doing, and you don’t “think” you’re protected…

Free Editions and trials are offered from about every Antivirus rovider, don’t get full by this, it’s just to show you how it’s working and it’s just protecting a parcel of the risk. An Antivirus cast Maximum 40 $; an Internet Security is about 60 * maximum and just 20 $ difference worth it, and I personally would pay 80 $ for a Norton 360 all in one security.

What’s that next level of security?

Antivirus Antispyware, Firewall, registr registry cleaner Privacy controller, checking email and website you’re surfing on … we’re far ahead from the single antivirus figure.   Talking about prices and quality?

It’s like cars! You may like one that I hate and Vice versa. But think as well of the price of your computer, privacy and data …. to stupid to lose it for not paying 80 $ a year !   If you’re going for a free edition or free trial, don’t forget to upgrade

And a last reminder, as much those programs are promising security, they don’t protect against stupidity … or Mars Attack!

Norton Antivirus 2007: an Upgrade Finally Worth the Wait

The Norton brand is probably the most synonymous brand when it comes to virus protection software. Norton Antivirus has been in existence since 1990, and since then a growing number of people have come to rely on the Norton name to protect their computers from virus attacks. In fact, Norton Antivirus is considered the most widely used antivirus software in the world today.

Over the years, Norton Antivirus as constantly underwent upgrades as a means of trying to improve on its ability to detect a growing number of viruses that are being spread. Additionally, each generation of the software incorporates several new features and services as a way of making it more effective in its task of detecti ng and eliminating (or quarantining) viruses as well as turning it into a more robust application. For example, in recent years, Norton Antivirus has begun to incorporate the detection not only of viruses ut also of Trojan horses, spyware and worms as a direct response to the growing proliferation of these potentially harmful pieces of malware.

With the release of Norton Antivirus 2007, users should expect to see another set of new features that will help it remain the top of its class when it comes to virus protection. One of the biggest changes in the 2007 version over the previous 2006 version is the decision of the Norton Antivirus team to rewrite much of the code for the application. The result of this overhaul is a faster and lighter version of the Antivirus oftware. Rewriting the code also meant that the interface was streamlined as well. Unlike the previous version, where each task appeared in a separate desktop window, the 2007 version wisely uses tabs inside just one window, which makes it much easier to manage.

Under the hood, Norton Antivirus also benefited from the code rewrite. For instance, the virus scan and the spyware can now run simultaneously, which drastically cuts down on scanning time. Norton Antivirus 2007 also incorporates many of the functions of Norton Personal Firewall, which means the application can now also double as a “light” firewall.

Another very important feature of the new version of Norton Antivirus is the incorporation of enterprise level anti rootkit functions. This powerful level of protection against rootkits is well worth the price of the software especially with the growing prevalence of rootkit based attacks on computers. Overall Norton Antivirus 007 is still arguably the best antivirus protection one can get, and the new version was definitely worth the wait unlike previous versions which disappointed.

Matt Gundesen is a specialist in the field of virus protection and works for AntivirusDownload.com. To get more information on the new features of Norton Antivirus 007 please visit: http://www.antivirusdownload.com/norton- Antivirus /a>
